Tracey Edmonds doing THRILLERS?
Yep, Tracey admits that since doing her movie “End Of The Road” with Queen Latifah and Ludacris, she had been bitten by the ‘Thriller Bug’ and was just looking for the right script to exercise her producing chops to create another nail biter for audiences to watch. Enters WAKE, a psychological thriller about A narcoleptic professor played by Shoniqua Shandai (Harlem) that believes she witnessed a murder in her neighbor’s home at the hands of a popular rapper played by J. Alphonse Nicholson (P Valley). She becomes obsessed with finding the truth and is hell-bent on taking him down before he turns his wrath on her and her friends (Parker McKenna Posey and DeRay Davis).
Deray breaks up the tension and suspense with his crazy antics and ‘one-liners’ but that doesnt take away from the high intensity that this film delivers.
Co-Produced by Chuck and Bree West from Octet Productions, we asked them about the experience and memorable moments on set to which Bree replied, “The experience was amazing. The cast was amazing and its hard to not be able to celebrate this victory without the cast, but we stand in solidarity with them and hope they are just as proud of it as we are of their work and dedication.” “The wrap party,” Chuck laughs. He goes on to explain the bond that was made with the cast, crew, and with Edmonds Entertainment that is immeasurable.
As producers continue to explore new and unique stories for black audiences, one can only imagine what Ms. Edmonds will ‘cook up’ next to keep us on the edge of our seats. One thing is for sure and two things are for certain, ‘us folk’ will still ‘be yelling’ at the screen small or big because that is just in our DNA, and what we do.
WAKE is currently streaming on BET Plus just in time for Halloween (2023).
