President Obama’s Fashion Statement

I’m pretty sure the White House Association Correspondents Dinner have taken place for more than One Hundred years. In fact, in researching the dinner, I found that the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) was founded in 1914 during the presidency of Woodrow Wilson. The first dinner was held in 1920 and has been an annual event ever since. The first president to attend the dinner was Calvin Coolidge in 1924; and so the tradition began.

However, I don’t ever remember this event becoming “the fashion and entertainment” must of the year. Since Obama has taken office, the WHCA has become the must attend event, and has surpassed the Oscars and Grammy’s as the hottest fashion event. Let’s be honest, when George W. Bush was in office, did you care about the WHCA, or who was amongst the invitees. Even when Bill Clinton was in office, I had no specific interest of the Dinner. I was not alive to remember, but I can only imagine that the only White House Correspondents Dinner that could have lived up to such magnitude was John F. Kennedy, and I only make this assumption based on certain parallels that historians have made between Obama and Kennedy. For example, the two have been deemed as handsome, distinguished gentlemen with great charisma. The First ladies style has been often compared and some have made the claim that not since Jackie Kennedy has there been a First Lady with such style. You don’t believe me, here is an excerpt from Vanity Fair and Jezebel:

Jennifer—Long before Ted Kennedy endorsed him for president, I've been telling anyone who'll listen that I think that Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are the contemporary version of Camelot: Barack with his ability to connect with younger generations and inspire hope; Michelle with her formidable intelligence and graceful, sophisticated style. In spite of the comparisons, I will boldly say that I don’t think there has been a ‘smoother’ president than Barack Obama. On Friday April 29, President Obama initiated orders to seek out Osama Bin Laden based on American intelligence. I’m sure this had to be a stressful situation. I wonder if the first Lady even knew. Yeah, she probably did. Michelle is from ‘The Chi’; she is a ‘Ride or Die Chick.” On Saturday April 30th, President Obama with the orders given throws the biggest White House Correspondents Dinner with colleagues, press, and entertainers ranging from the biggest Fashion Critic in Joan Rivers to Hip Hop Legend Russell Simmons [Rocking his Shell Toe White Adidas and Tuxedo BTW] to New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and wife Lala Vasquez [looking absolutely scrumptious], and more. Even a couple of vampires were “in the house” with Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. The biggest surprise for me was Donald Trump. How arrogant can you be to show up to a dinner after causing such a stir with the imfamous “Birth Certificate” rhetoric. However, back to my point [before we talk more about the guest list], President Obama showed poise, calm, and “Swagger” [yeah I said it, “SWAGGER”] as he entertained hundreds of guests without one tiny bead of sweat on his brow as in his heart and mind was on a mission that was about to “go down.” He even kept his even keel as he roasted Donald Trump. Obama’s jokes were intelligent, and his delivery and punch was awesome. The greats like Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx would have been proud [they may have wanted Obama to ‘cuss Donald’s A$$ out’]. Then there was the First Lady in during the night. She was graceful, engaging, and supportive. All the things you would want your ‘better half’ to be given the situation.

Besides the high ranking officials and the chosen few, no one had a clue. I have often heard media claim they saw Congressmen and certain government officials on their blackberries and iPhones and figured something was up. I say, c’mon, give me a break. Hind sight is always 20/20, you knew nothing then. You suspected nothing. For all you know, they could have been “tweeting” and “facebooking” [as I was] “I can’t believe I’m at the WHCA with President Obama,” or “Dayum Rosario Dawson looks good,” or “ I wonder who Joan Rivers will say is the Fash Ho for tonight of Fashion Police.” Be true, you didn’t suspect a thing. That’s just how well the night was, and how well the Obama’s entertained the guests.

The list of who’s who at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner was phenomenal. What impressed me the most was the diversity of guests from Icons in Fashion, Sports, Media, and Entertainment. Some celebrities chose to attend the event in stag, while other power couples attended. I had a crush on Alyssa Milano since her days as Samantha Micelli on the sitcom “Who’s The Boss.” She entered the building in a stunning black dress and the mom-to-be actress was just glowing on the red carpet. Media correspondent Geraldo Rivera was all smiles with some beautiful arm candy by his side, as was Russell Simmons with a cutie in a gorgeous white number. Always hot on the Red Carpets these days are R&B Singer John Legend and his girlfriend, but as I said earlier, Carmelo Anthony and Lala definitely was my pick for HOTTEST Couple. I like it when people can clean up nice especially when they are only known for rocking t-shirts, hoodies, and baseball caps. I was somewhat disappointed that David Arquette came stag. I was hoping to see Courtney Cox on his arm since it was reported on Mad Flavor Television [Mad Flavor TV on BBN through Verizon Video On Demand] that the two have had this on again/off again relationship that maybe on again. If I was a guest on Fashion Police [shout out to Joan Rivers on the red Carpet], I would say Will-I-AM was the worst dress. I know the Black Eyed Peas is all about futuristic Pop, but c’mon this is the White House Dinner. You should cut off that “Astro Boy” hairdo and dead the glitter shoes [#Imjustsayin]. Of course, the fashion began and ended with the First Couple. Michelle, classic and beautiful and The President distinguished and dapper; but most of all, they both were “just as cool as the other side of a pillow.”

Wow Mad Flavor faithfuls! I can truly say that Mad Flavor Television Show is BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVORED!

I just happened to randomly click on the NFL Players Association website to poke around for the many events during the Superbowl this year, and stumbled across a picture of our Host Estela Maldonado smiling in an interview from the JB Awards during the summer. I was so shocked, I had to see it again (and again, and again). “I REMEMBER THAT!” I said to myself as I loaded the page for the 10th time (lmao). Seeing this just gave me extra energy, extra drive, and extra motivation to continue to make Mad Flavor TV and Mad Flavor Latino the hottest entertainment/magazine shows on television and the internet. I always viewed our show as a close third or fourth to shows on BET and MTV (and MTV Tr3s), but its time to make us number 1. If the NFLPA can believe in an independent show like us, then surely there are other believers (click image to view it larger).

OMG! Mad Flavor Talks with Miguel

It’s 5:30 PM and outside the media entrance to the Verizon Center are about 50 college students, and about 10 high schoolers. Most are music majors, future journalists, engineers, publicists, and entertainers. Then there is us (and La Nueva 87.7 FM). I can’t help but feel that amidst the crowd of youngins, I might be looking at the next P. Diddy, or Miguel. Actually, they are waiting outside to meet Jive Recording Artist Miguel, and maybe get some lessons from the new rising star.

After being thoroughly searched by security (dogs included), we are all escorted inside to the loading area where the tour buses sit in a rest position. The students go onto Miguel’s Tour Bus in groups of ten. The media patiently waits for the young and impressionable minds of our future to meet Miguel. Miguel is supposed to hit the stage at 7:30, but he makes sure to meet each person and give him or her individual attention. ”I LIKE THAT,” and although it meant Mad Flavor had to wait, I like that still.

Time has run short, and we were told that our interview might have to wait until after his performance. However, we would be allowed in his dressing room and to see his performance. “Hmmm? COOL! We’ll wait.” Miguel and a host of others get dressed and disappear into the smoke. I figured, “probably his dancers,” but when the black light went up, Everybody appeared with an instrument in hand. What’s this? A live band? A new artist performing with a live band and not a music track. Now I am even more impressed. “I LIKE THAT!”

Miguel rips the house, and sets the barr for what is going to be…well an OMG Show!!! After he exits the stage still hype from his performance, he comes back to his dressing room for our interview (and it went something like this…)

Who will be the next Model to grace the cover of Eventos VIP Pass Magazine?

That is just what we wanted to find out as we attended the 2010 Chica Talento VIP Contest in Falls Church, VA at the Majestic Night Club. Mundo Vision and Eventos VIP Pass assembled 7 hopefuls in a Sexy “Battle Royal” as each gave us their very best provocative walk, pose, and tease to entice the crowd and the judges to vote them as the first “Chica Talento VIP.”

The Show was a non stop compilation of music, dance, and body parts! Planett Music entertained the crowd during intermission with about 20 minutes of Reggaeton. Also included was a mixture of Dance and Fitness with Jenny Osoria of Jenny O. Fitness. The event surely had its fill of Eye-Candy for the Guys, but did try to accomodate the women as well with a couple of shirtless Buff Males that the contestents used as props as they tried to tease and allure the crowd. Mad Flavor Latino host Estela Maldonado “The Incan Princess” was able to grab a couple of exclusive interviews from the event.

Mad Flavor TV @ Exclusive Listening Lounge with Sean Garrett and Saigon

On December 20, 2010, the Washington DC Hip Hop Community, DeeJays, and media got to listen to exclusive tracks by Musician/Producer Sean Garrett and Just Blaze’s Artist Saigon at the U Street Music Hall on the Historic U Street Corridor. The event was sponsored by Unruly Records, DTLR, Candice Nicole PR, and Heineken. Saigon played tracks that included Marsha Ambrosius, Faith Evans, JayZ, and Kanye West. The infamous producer Sean Garrett that wrote, produced, and performed songs for Beyonce, Usher, Brittany Spears, and more shared hits from his highly anticipated album.

Washington D.C. Youth are “Smarter Than The Average Bear.”

Who is “Smarter than the Average Bear”? The Washington D.C. Area youth, that’s who. On December 13, 2010 the Greater Washington Area Boys and Girls Club experienced a treat as they were allowed to see the exclusive prescreening of Warner Bros. Pictures “Yogi Bear”. The event was the brainchild of Liquid Soul Media that targeted a select amount of cities nationwide, and partnered with Warner Bros. and The Boys and Girls Clubs of America aimed to teach youth about Leadership and what makes a great leader. Different troops from the DMV all gathered at the Regal Cinemas Gallery Place to have a Leadership Rally and enjoy the movie in 3D. Councilman Harry Thomas, Jr. of Ward 5 and WPGC 95.5’s Anji Corley were troop leaders and talked to the kids about education and leadership. Many of the kids spoke about the importance of being an individual, respect, and the issue of “bullying.”

WELL NOT EXACTLY. Mad Flavor TV Show didnt turn 100, but the show did reach a Milestone by airing 100 Episodes of the popular Entertainment/Magazine Show.

Mad Flavor TV teamed up with Fou-Dre to help celebrate this auspicious occassion. THE EVENT: Mad Flavor TV Show 100th Episode Appreciation Party brought back past and present hosts, crew, and production staff to help celebrate the show’s accomplishments and to say thank you to everyone that help to make the last 99 Episodes a complete success.
